Open-label trial will evaluate a 12-week, 10 mg daily regimen of the company’s high-purity S-equol ingredient in women with moderate menopausal symptoms.
Bonerge Lifescience announced a new clinical study evaluating EquoYouth®, its branded S-equol ingredient, for its potential to ease menopausal symptoms and support women through the menopausal transition — without the use of hormones.
Study Design at a Glance
- Design: Open-label, single-arm clinical trial
- Participants: Women aged 45–60 with moderate menopausal symptoms
- Regimen: 10 mg S-equol daily for 12 weeks
- Measures: Symptom severity, sleep quality, emotional well-being, cognitive function, quality of life, and safety parameters
Unlike most published S-equol research, which has centered on hot flash frequency, this design also incorporates validated sleep, mood and cognitive assessments alongside breast and endometrial ultrasound monitoring — addressing evidence gaps that remain open in the existing literature.
This exploratory study marks the first stage of Bonerge’s broader clinical research program for EquoYouth®. Once complete, the company plans to move into a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to further confirm the ingredient’s efficacy and safety profile.
Why S-Equol Matters for Menopause Support
S-equol is a metabolite the body produces when gut bacteria convert soy isoflavones — but not every woman’s microbiome can make that conversion. Research suggests only about a third to half of women in Western populations naturally produce equol, leaving a large group of “non-producers” without access to its benefits through diet alone. Direct S-equol supplementation gives these women a consistent way to access the compound, regardless of their gut microbiota composition.
Once in the body, S-equol binds selectively to estrogen receptor beta (ERβ), allowing it to support hormonal balance without acting like a hormone itself — a distinction drawing growing interest as women look for non-hormonal options for menopause support.
What Earlier Research Shows
Prior published studies on 10 mg/day S-equol supplementation have pointed to improvements in hot flashes, sleep quality, mood, and muscle discomfort, with the most pronounced effects seen among equol non-producers — the group Bonerge’s new study is designed to reach.
Backed by Purity and Compliance Credentials
EquoYouth® S-Equol is manufactured through a proprietary fermentation process that yields more than 99% purity by HPLC and is structurally identical to the S-equol naturally produced in the human gut. It is the first high-purity S-equol ingredient to achieve Self-Affirmed GRAS (SA-GRAS) status, and it carries FSSC 22000, Kosher, and Halal certifications.
