Company to present new data supporting MS001 as a differentiated GLP-1 co-therapy addressing energy expenditure—the other side of the energy-balance equation
RIEHEN, SWITZERLAND, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — MetaShape Pharma AG (“MetaShape” or the “Company”), a biopharmaceutical company developing MS 001, a first-in-class oral small-molecule co-therapy designed to enhance GLP-1 mediated weight loss while preserving muscle health, today announced its participation in two leading investor conferences in September: the Fall 2026 MedInvest Biotech & Pharma Investor Conference (“MedInvest”), September 15–16, and RESI Boston 2026 (“RESI”), with MetaShape participating virtually on September 25 and 28–29.
MedInvest Fall 2026
Randall Riggs, MBA, Chief Executive Officer of MetaShape, will attend MedInvest, taking place September 15–16 at Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, 390 Madison Avenue in New York City. Mr. Riggs will present MetaShape’s latest preclinical data for MS 001, together with an update on the Company’s development strategy and upcoming milestones, on September 15, 2026, at 10:40 a.m. EST, and will meet with investors and potential strategic partners during the two-day event.
MedInvest brings together active biopharma investors with emerging and established life sciences companies for two days of corporate presentations, investor discussions and one-on-one partnering. The Fall 2026 program is expected to include more than 125 investors and 50 presenting companies, as well as keynote and panel discussions and sessions involving the National institutes of Health.
RESI Boston 2026
Shanta Bantia, PhD, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of MetaShape, will participate virtually in RESI Boston 2026 on September 25 and 28–29, meeting with investors and potential strategic partners to discuss MS 001, the Company’s latest preclinical findings and development strategy.
RESI is focused specifically on connecting early-stage life sciences companies with active investors and strategic partners through targeted one-on-one meetings based on sector, development stage and investment criteria.
New Data Support MS 001 as a Complementary Approach to GLP-1 Therapy
MS 001 (ulodesine hemiglutarate) is an oral inhibitor of purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) currently in pre-IND development as a first-in-class metabolic amplifier designed to enhance the efficacy and durability of GLP-1 therapies for obesity. While GLP-1-based treatments primarily drive weight loss by reducing appetite and energy intake, MS 001 is designed to complement this effect on the other side of the energy-balance equation by helping the body burn more fat, not just eat less.
By increasing energy expenditure and activating thermogenic pathways in adipose tissue, MS 001 is being developed as a co-therapy for GLP-1-based treatments to promote greater fat-selective weight loss, without additional caloric restriction, while preserving lean muscle mass, a critical unmet need in obesity care. This complementary mechanism also aims to address key limitations of current obesity therapies, including weight regain following GLP-1 discontinuation and gastrointestinal burden, while potentially extending weight-loss efficacy in individuals with higher adiposity.
MS 001 is a patent-pending novel salt form of ulodesine, a PNP inhibitor that has been administered to over 500 subjects in clinical studies and has generally been shown to be safe and well tolerated. This prior clinical experience with ulodesine provides relevant human safety data supporting MetaShape’s development of MS 001 for obesity and cardiometabolic disorders.
“GLP-1 therapies have transformed obesity treatment, but they have also highlighted the need for complementary approaches that can improve the quality and durability of weight loss,” said Randall Riggs, MBA, CEO of MetaShape. “We believe MS 001 has the potential to become a cornerstone of the next generation of combination therapies by addressing energy expenditure alongside appetite suppression. The new preclinical data we will share with investors at MedInvest and RESI further strengthen the case for MS 001 as a differentiated GLP-1 co-therapy and position the program for its next stage of clinical and strategic development.”
About MetaShape Pharma
MetaShape Pharma is a privately held biopharmaceutical company founded in 2023 to redefine healthy weight loss by helping the body burn more fat rather than simply reducing food intake. The Company develops first-in-class metabolic therapies designed to enhance the efficacy and durability of GLP-1-based treatments. Its lead candidate, MS 001, is a preclinical-stage oral small-molecule co-therapy that reprograms fat metabolism to drive greater fat-selective weight loss, preserve muscle mass, and reduce weight regain, with the goal of delivering more durable outcomes for patients with obesity and cardiometabolic diseases.
MetaShape is currently preparing a Series A financing of US$20 million to advance MS 001 through clinical proof of concept, with initial efficacy data anticipated in 2029.
