RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) achieved a median door-to-balloon time of 79 minutes for STEMI patients in 2025, below the 90-minute target and down from 96 minutes in 2010, through an integrated program that makes it Saudi Arabia’s only accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI. A cardiac catheterization lab inside the Emergency Department has since halved the time between arrival and the reopening of a blocked artery.
KFSH is the only accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI in Saudi Arabia, recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation, reflecting its commitment to internationally recognized standards in the management of patients presenting with chest pain and acute coronary syndromes.
The program brings together emergency medicine, cardiology, catheterization laboratory services, and evidence-based protocols, enabling clinical teams to coordinate care from the moment a patient arrives through diagnosis and intervention. For patients experiencing a heart attack, this integrated approach is designed to reduce delays at a point when every minute can influence clinical outcomes.
The program has also developed pathways for patients transferred to KFSH for urgent cardiac intervention, strengthening its role as a referral center for complex and time-sensitive cases.
Executive Director of the Heart Center of Excellence at KFSH, Dr. Hani Alsergani, said: “By integrating specialized expertise with standardized pathways, KFSH aims to accelerate diagnosis and treatment, enhance patient safety, and reduce the risk of complications associated with delays in restoring coronary blood flow. The model reflects a broader shift from viewing emergency cardiac treatment as an isolated procedure toward managing the entire patient journey as one coordinated clinical pathway.”
The program shows how accreditation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and measurable performance can translate into faster, more patient-centered emergency cardiac care.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 12th globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centers for 2026. It was also recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East for 2026, according to Brand Finance, and listed by Newsweek among the World’s Best Hospitals, World’s Best Smart Hospitals, and World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for 2026.
